Pre Vasectomy Prep
What is a Vasectomy?
The Snip is a safe, simple, and permanent male contraceptive procedure.
Our modern non-scalpel technique uses a laser-like device to seal the tubes carrying sperm with no need for cutting or stitching. In the hands of one of our experienced doctors , a vasectomy is very straightforward. You’ll be quick to recover and back to normal activities within a few days!
Step One: Prep
How to prepare for my Snip
If you’re certain that you’ve finished your family or don’t want kids, Snip offers a permanent male contraceptive option.
Booking Request
Fill out our booking request online or give us a call on 0800 DR SNIP (there’s no need for a referral).
Booking Confirmation
You’ll receive an email which confirms the date and time of your Snip, plus a date for your pre-vasectomy phone appointment with the nurse if you opted for one.
Information Video
In preparation for your vasectomy you’ll be asked to watch a couple of information videos where our docs will talk you through the prep, the procedure itself, and after the procedure. Whether you have a nurse appointment or not it is important you watch these videos. Crack open a cold one, put your feet up, and get prepared for your vasectomy.
Phone Appointment
We don’t need to see you before your procedure, but you are able to have a phone appointment with one of our friendly nurses before your Snip. During this chat we’ll make sure that you’re up to speed on what to expect. It’s also a great opportunity to ask any questions you have.
Necessary Information
When booking your appointment, we will ask you a few medical questions, so that we have all the necessary information we need. If anything flags here that we need to know more about, we will arrange a nurse to call you. And of course if no information flags up here, you are still welcome to choose to have a nurse appointment before your procedure if you would like. Our nurse appointments are the perfect time to fire off any niggly questions which may be holding you back!
Shaving
To reduce the chance of infection after your vasectomy, it’s important to shave your balls 2-3 days before your procedure. It’s important, however, you do not shave on the day of your procedure.
No Hidden Costs
Whether you have a pre-procedure phone appointment with the nurse or not there’s no extra charge for this. It’s included in our one price, no surprises fee. And if you change your mind after your phone chat, then no worries, there’s no obligation for you to go ahead with the procedure.
Low Income Assistance
You may be eligible for a fully funded vasectomy. Find out about assistance for low income and Community Services Card holders through Work and Income New Zealand (WINZ). We can also provide you with information required for health insurance prior approval and insurance claims.
