What to expect after your vasectomy

Step Three: Chill
What to do after my vasectomy
Take the day off
Pat yourself on the back and take the rest of the day off work
No immediate pain
Apply Ice Pack
Slight Discomfort
Ice Intermittently
Continue to ice the treated area intermittently for two hours
Pain Relief
Don’t forget to take pain relief regularly to minimise discomfort
Relax
Put your feet up, chill, and take it easy for the rest of the day
No Post Op
You won’t need to come see us for a post op appointment. But we are here to assist you until you are fully recovered. Day or night we are available for any queries or concerns you may have. Contact us
3 months – Continue Contraception
Consider yourself still fertile until you have been tested three months after your vasectomy. Continue to use contraception until you have received the all clear. We will remind you to test three months after your procedure. Learn more about testing.

What to avoid after vasectomy
- Strenuous exercise including, running, lifting weights, and playing sport
- Physically demanding work
- Swimming in a pool, spa, or the ocean
- Taking a bath (showers are okay)
- Unprotected sex (until you have the all clear). You can continue sexual activities at any time provided you use contraception
What next.
Once recovered, you’ll be glad to know that life will go on exactly as before (minus the worries!). To ensure you are shooting blanks we will remind you to test three months after your procedure. Once you have been given the all clear you are good to go, but until then contraception is a must!
