Step Two: Snip
What to expect during my procedure
Welcome In
After you’ve checked in at reception, our doctor will come to meet you in the waiting area and take you through to the procedure room.
Got Questions?
Before anything begins, your doctor will check in with you and answer any final questions. You’re in expert hands — we’ve performed over 40,000 vasectomies across New Zealand.
Let’s Get Started
You’ll hop onto the procedure bed — socks stay on! We’ll talk you through everything as we go.
Local Anaesthetic
We use a quick-acting local anesthetic to numb a small area of skin at the front of the scrotum.
Scalpel-Free, Stitch-Free
Once numb, we use a Hyfrecator to make a tiny 3mm keyhole opening — no scalpels, no stitches, and definitely not in the testicle. From here, we locate and seal the vas deferens (the tubes that carry sperm).
Fast & Effective
The entire procedure takes just a few minutes. It’s done through that one small entry point, and then you’re good to go.
Drive Yourself Home
Yes, you can drive home after — just take it easy for the rest of the day.
Recover in Comfort
Once the anesthetic wears off (usually about an hour later), you might feel some mild discomfort. We recommend resting for the remainder of day — ice the area, relax, and binge your favourite show.
